 The Welsh Government has recently published its annual performance statistics for councils in Wales for 2023/24 and Swansea has made the top five out of 22 authorities with a recycling percentage of 70.5%.

 All councils in Wales must achieve a recycling percentage of 70% by 2024/25, meaning residents in the city have helped the city achieve the important target a year early, and are one of just six councils to have done so.

 Wales is the only country in the UK to achieve an overall recycling above 50%.

 Cyril Anderson, Cabinet Member for Community in the Council, said: "It's great news to see Swansea performing the way it is. Residents are making the most of the kerbside recycling collection services we offer, helping us to dispose of household waste in the best way possible.

 "In future years, we will be expected to recycle even more than we are currently and so we are continuing to work with households, to ensure they make the most of the services offered to them, by reducing the amount of black bag waste they dispose of.

 "We are also continuing to evolve out waste collection services to ensure we make the most of our resources, so we can manage the different waste materials we collect on a weekly and fortnightly basis."

 The Council has recently announced a minor change for residents in terms of what materials are collected weekly.

 From December 2, black bag waste will be collected along with green recyclables instead of being collected with plastics.

 The changes are in response to increases in recycling being placed out for collection by households and also the introduction of new collection vehicles.

 Residents in Swansea have been sent information about the important changes and what they need to do when they changes are made.

 Cllr Anderson, said: "I'm confident we are doing all we can to make residents aware of the changes so they can easily carry out what is being asked of them.

 "The changes may seem small but they are important for us to become more efficient in our collection methods and reduce some of the disruption experienced in recent months."
